In 2020, we reached out to our community to ask what their family looked like – and the responses blew us away. Some were heartfelt, some were unexpected, all of them were personal and meaningful stories about what “family” means.
We heard from solo parents, blended whānau, grandparents with mokopuna, two-household crews travelling together, adult siblings, some who had lost a child, and chosen families made up of best mates. It really drove home how many different ways there are to be a family – and how a “2 adults + 2 kids” bundle didn’t suit everyone.
